See a clinician to confirm it is bacterial vaginosis and not a yeast infection, STI, or other cause
Avoid douching and scented vaginal products
Use only mild, unscented soap on the vulva; do not wash inside the vagina
Wear breathable cotton underwear and avoid tight, non-breathable clothing
Change out of wet swimsuits or sweaty clothes promptly
Practice safer sex and use condoms
Limit new or multiple sexual partners if BV keeps recurring
Consider vaginal probiotics with Lactobacillus strains after discussing with a clinician
Consider boric acid vaginal suppositories only if a clinician says they are appropriate
Maintain good genital hygiene and wipe front to back
Avoid smoking
Manage recurrence triggers, such as semen exposure or menstrual products that irritate you
Seek medical care if symptoms persist, recur often, you are pregnant, or you have pelvic pain, fever, or unusual bleeding
