Take acetaminophen or ibuprofen as directed on the label

Seek urgent medical care if the fever is 103°F (39.4°C) or higher in an adult
Seek urgent medical care if the fever lasts more than 3 days
Seek urgent medical care if there is trouble breathing, chest pain, confusion, stiff neck, seizure, severe headache, rash, dehydration, or worsening symptoms
Get immediate medical help for a baby under 3 months with any fever
Contact a doctor before giving fever medicine to a child or if the child seems very ill
