Stop shaving the area until the bumps heal
Apply a warm compress for 10 to 15 minutes, 2 to 3 times a day

Exfoliate very gently with a soft washcloth only if the skin is not irritated
Use a fragrance-free moisturizer or aloe vera gel
Wear loose, breathable cotton underwear
Avoid picking, squeezing, or scratching the bumps
Avoid tight clothing and friction
Use an over-the-counter hydrocortisone 1% cream for a short period if the skin is itchy or inflamed
Use an over-the-counter benzoyl peroxide wash carefully if the skin is not broken
Trim hair instead of shaving until the bumps clear
Shave with a clean, sharp razor and shaving gel in the future
Shave in the direction of hair growth
Seek medical care if there is pus, severe pain, spreading redness, fever, or no improvement after a few days
