Rest and stay home

Eat bland foods when you can tolerate them

Avoid caffeine
Avoid greasy, spicy, or heavy foods
Wash hands frequently
Clean contaminated surfaces
Avoid preparing food for others until fully recovered
Take acetaminophen if needed for fever or aches, unless you should not use it
Avoid anti-diarrheal medicines if you have fever or bloody stool unless a clinician says it is okay
Seek medical care if you cannot keep fluids down
Seek medical care if you have signs of dehydration
Seek medical care if you have severe abdominal pain
Seek medical care if you have blood in vomit or stool
Seek medical care if symptoms last more than a few days
Seek medical care if you are pregnant, elderly, immunocompromised, or the patient is a young child
