Move away from the skunk area immediately
Keep pets outside or in a contained area
Wear gloves and old clothes
Wash skin with soap and water
For skin, use a mix of 1 quart 3% hydrogen peroxide, 1/4 cup baking soda, and 1 teaspoon liquid dish soap
Apply the mixture to skin or fur carefully
Rinse thoroughly after a few minutes
Repeat if needed
Wash hair with shampoo and conditioner
Wash clothes separately in hot water with detergent and baking soda
Add white vinegar to the wash if safe for the fabric
Air out items outdoors
Clean hard surfaces with soap and water first
Follow with a vinegar solution on washable surfaces
Use an enzymatic cleaner on fabrics, carpets, and pet bedding
Replace heavily contaminated porous items if odor remains
Keep pets from licking the treated area
Call a vet if a pet has eye irritation, breathing trouble, or severe exposure
