Remove the avocado seed from the fruit
Rinse the seed gently to remove any fruit residue
Identify the top and bottom of the seed
Insert three or four toothpicks into the sides of the seed
Suspend the seed over a glass of water with the bottom half submerged
Place the glass in a warm spot with indirect sunlight
Change the water every few days
Wait for the seed to split and roots to grow
Wait for a stem and leaves to emerge
Keep the roots in water until they are several inches long
Transfer the sprouted seed into a pot with well-draining soil
Leave the top half of the seed above the soil
Water the plant regularly
Place the pot in bright, indirect light
Repot as the plant grows
