Cut stalks into sections with at least 2 to 3 nodes each
Plant the sections horizontally or at a slight angle
Cover the stalk sections with 2 to 4 inches of soil
Space the plantings to allow room for growth
Water thoroughly after planting
Keep the soil consistently moist during establishment
Apply mulch to help retain moisture and suppress weeds
Fertilize periodically with a balanced or nitrogen-rich fertilizer
Remove weeds regularly around the plants
Hill soil around the base as the canes grow taller
Protect plants from cold temperatures and frost
Harvest when stalks are mature and thick
Cut the canes close to the ground for regrowth if desired
