Get a sapling
Place the sapling on grass, dirt, podzol, or farmland
Make sure there is enough space above and around it
Wait for it to grow naturally
Use bone meal to speed up growth
Remove any blocks blocking the sapling’s growth
For some tree types, place multiple saplings in the correct pattern
Keep the area well lit if you want to avoid nearby mob issues
