Remove the avocado seed from the fruit and rinse off all flesh
Identify the top and bottom of the seed
Insert three to four toothpicks into the middle of the seed
Suspend the seed over a glass of water with the bottom half submerged
Place the glass in a warm spot with indirect sunlight
Change the water every few days
Wait for the seed to split and roots to grow
Wait for a stem and leaves to emerge
Plant the seedling in a pot with well-draining soil when roots are several inches long
Keep the top half of the seed above the soil
Water the plant regularly to keep the soil lightly moist
Place the pot in bright, indirect light
Repot as the plant grows
Pinch the top leaves to encourage branching
Protect the plant from cold temperatures
