Turn off power at the circuit breaker
Verify the power is off with a voltage tester
Remove the old fixture if present
Support the fixture and disconnect the wires
Inspect the ceiling box to ensure it is rated for the new light
Install or replace the mounting bracket if needed
Connect the ground wire to the fixture and box ground
Connect the neutral wires together
Connect the hot wires together
Secure wire connections with wire nuts
Tuck wires into the ceiling box
Attach the light fixture to the mounting bracket
Install bulbs if required
Attach the shade, cover, or decorative parts
Restore power at the breaker
Test the light switch and fixture
Tighten any loose parts if needed
