Wash your hands before touching the blister
Clean the area gently with soap and water
Leave small, unbroken blisters intact
Cover the blister with a sterile bandage or blister pad
Use padding to reduce pressure and friction
Keep the area clean and dry
Avoid popping the blister
If the blister opens, rinse it with clean water
Apply a thin layer of antibiotic ointment if needed
Cover the open blister with a nonstick dressing
Change the dressing daily or when it gets wet or dirty
Wear comfortable, well-fitting shoes or clothing
Rest the affected area when possible
Seek medical care if there are signs of infection
Seek medical care if the blister is very large, painful, or caused by burns, chemicals, or an allergic reaction
