Rinse your mouth with warm salt water
Floss gently to remove trapped food
Take an over-the-counter pain reliever as directed on the label
Apply a cold compress to the outside of your cheek
Avoid very hot, cold, sweet, or hard foods
Keep your head elevated when resting
Use a cold water rinse if warm water worsens the pain
Do not place aspirin directly on the tooth or gums
Use clove oil sparingly on the affected area if tolerated
Brush gently with a soft toothbrush
See a dentist as soon as possible
Seek urgent care if you have swelling, fever, trouble swallowing, or trouble breathing
