Keep luggage outside the room or in the bathroom while inspecting
Turn on all lights
Pull back the sheets and inspect the mattress seams, corners, and piping
Check the box spring, especially edges, staples, and fabric folds
Examine the headboard, especially behind and around the bed frame
Look at the bed frame, joints, cracks, and screw holes
Inspect nearby furniture, including nightstands, chairs, and curtains
Check along baseboards, wall edges, and behind pictures or mirrors
Look for live bugs, shed skins, eggs, dark spots, and blood stains
Use a flashlight to inspect dark crevices and seams
Check upholstered furniture and carpet edges
Keep belongings in sealed bags and away from the bed
If signs are found, request a different room far from the original room
Inspect the new room before bringing luggage inside
