Download the plugin files from a trusted source
Close Paint.NET if it is open
Open the downloaded plugin archive if it is compressed
Copy the plugin files
Paste the plugin files into the Paint.NET Effects folder or FileTypes folder, depending on the plugin type
If the plugin comes with an installer, run the installer and follow the prompts
Restart Paint.NET
Verify the plugin appears in the appropriate menu or tool list
