Keep the water in a biome where it does not freeze, such as warm biomes
Use a light source near the water
Put the water indoors or underground
Use flowing water instead of exposed still water
Cover the water with slabs, glass, or other blocks
Avoid placing water at high, cold, or snowy areas
Use a bucket to refill frozen water if needed
