How to Know if Eggs Are Good or Bad?

Check the expiration or “best by” date

Look for cracks, leaks, or unusual discoloration on the shell

Do the water test: fresh eggs sink and lay flat; bad eggs float

Crack the egg into a separate bowl before using

A fresh egg has little to no odor

A bad egg smells sour, rotten, or sulfur-like

A fresh egg white is thick and the yolk stays rounded

A bad egg may have runny whites, a flat yolk, or an unusual appearance

If the egg looks or smells off, throw it away

Store eggs properly in the refrigerator to help them stay good longer
