Get an HIV test
Check for recent possible exposure to HIV
Watch for flu-like symptoms after exposure, such as fever, sore throat, rash, swollen glands, or fatigue
Remember that many people with HIV have no symptoms for years
Do not rely on symptoms alone to know if you have HIV
Use a home HIV test or get tested at a clinic, doctor’s office, or public health center
Ask about the HIV test window period if exposure was recent
Repeat testing if the first test was done too soon after exposure
Seek medical care promptly if you think you may have been exposed
Get tested for other sexually transmitted infections as well
