Cut the cap of the cigar if needed
Use a butane lighter or wooden matches
Toast the foot of the cigar by holding the flame just below it
Rotate the cigar slowly to warm the foot evenly
Draw gently while continuing to toast the foot
Bring the flame close enough to ignite the tobacco without touching it directly if possible
Puff lightly until the entire foot is evenly lit
Check for an even burn and relight any unlit spots if needed
