Make sure the area is well ventilated
Check that the burner and stove are clean and dry
Turn on the gas supply if it is off
Match the burner knob to the correct burner
Push in and turn the knob to the ignite or light position
Use the built-in igniter if the stove has one
If there is no igniter, use a long lighter or match near the burner
Keep your hand away from the burner while lighting
Wait for the flame to appear
Release the knob if needed after the flame is steady
Adjust the flame to the desired level
Turn off the burner when finished
If the burner does not light quickly, turn off the gas and wait before trying again
