Check that the car seat is not locked in a reclined or tightened position
Locate the harness adjuster strap at the front of the seat
Press and hold the harness release button or lever
Pull the shoulder straps outward while holding the release button
If the straps do not loosen, lift the chest clip and shoulder pads slightly
Make sure the harness is not twisted
For rear-facing seats, confirm the harness is routed correctly for the child’s size
If needed, remove the child first before adjusting the straps
Recheck the harness fit after loosening
Refer to the Graco manual for your specific model if the straps still will not loosen
