Test the pool water to confirm total alkalinity is high
Turn off the pool pump
Add muriatic acid or dry acid in small amounts
Pour the acid slowly into the deep end or in front of a return jet
Keep the pump running to circulate the water
Retest total alkalinity after the water mixes
Repeat small acid additions until alkalinity reaches the target range
Aerate the water if pH drops too low
Recheck and adjust pH after lowering alkalinity
Maintain proper chemical balance to prevent alkalinity from rising again
