Gather basket-making materials: reeds, willow, rattan, straw, rope, or paper strips
Soak flexible materials if needed to make them easier to bend
Choose a base shape and size
Make a small cross or circular foundation with the first strips
Secure the center tightly with an additional strip
Weave the remaining strips over and under the base structure
Keep the weaving pattern even and tight
Add more strips as needed to build up the sides
Bend the vertical strips upward to form the basket walls
Continue weaving around the sides until the basket reaches the desired height
Tuck in or trim any loose ends
Add a rim or border by folding and securing the top strips
Attach a handle if desired
Let the basket dry and set completely
Check for loose sections and reinforce them if needed
