How To Make A Bat House?

Choose untreated exterior-grade wood

Cut front, back, sides, roof, and landing board pieces

Make the interior rough or add horizontal grooves

Assemble the box tightly with no gaps

Seal all exterior seams with caulk

Paint the outside with dark, non-toxic exterior paint

Leave the inside unpainted

Add a vent or chamber space if building a multi-chamber house

Attach a slanted roof to shed water

Install the bat house at least 12 to 20 feet high

Mount it on a pole or building, not a tree

Face it toward south or southeast in a sunny location

Keep it away from bright lights and heavy human activity

Place it near water and insect-rich habitat

Secure it firmly so it does not sway

Check it periodically for damage or pests
