Open Minecraft Java Edition
Click Multiplayer
Click Add Server or Direct Connection
Enter the server address
Click Done
Select the server
Click Join Server
To host a world, open a singleplayer world
Press Esc
Click Open to LAN
Choose game mode and cheats if needed
Click Start LAN World
Share the displayed port with others on the same network
For online multiplayer, set up a dedicated Minecraft Java server
Download the official Minecraft server file
Create a new folder for the server
Place the server file in the folder
Run the server file
Accept the EULA by editing eula.txt to true
Run the server again
Configure server.properties if needed
Open port 25565 on your router
Allow Java through your firewall
Share your public IP address and port with players
Have players add the server in Multiplayer and join
