How to Make a Roman Shade?

Measure the window width and height

Decide the finished shade length

Cut the fabric to size with seam allowance

Cut lining fabric to the same size

Press the fabric and lining

Sew the fabric and lining together, leaving an opening

Turn the shade right side out

Press the edges flat

Close the opening by hand or machine

Mark evenly spaced fold lines on the back

Sew horizontal pocket rows or rings at each marked line

Attach lift rings to the back of the shade

Install a headrail, board, or curtain rod at the top

Attach the shade to the headrail

Thread cords through the rings or pockets

Add cord guides if needed

Secure cords at the bottom

Mount the shade over the window

Test the lift and adjust the cord tension

Trim any excess cord

Add a bottom hem or weight bar if needed
