2 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons butter or shortening
3/4 cup milk
In a bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, and salt
Cut in butter or shortening until crumbly
Stir in milk until a soft dough forms
Turn dough onto a floured surface
Roll or pat dough to about 1/4-inch thickness
Cut into strips or squares
Drop dumplings into simmering chicken broth or stew
Cover and cook for 10 to 15 minutes
Do not lift the lid while dumplings cook
Serve immediately with chicken and broth
