Rinse 1 cup jasmine rice under cold water until the water runs mostly clear
Drain the rice well
Add the rice to a pot with 1 1/2 cups water
Add a pinch of salt if desired
Bring to a boil over medium-high heat
Reduce heat to low and cover with a tight-fitting lid
Simmer for 12 to 15 minutes without lifting the lid
Turn off the heat
Let the rice rest, covered, for 10 minutes
Fluff the rice with a fork
Serve warm
