Chill a martini glass
Add ice to a cocktail shaker
Pour in 2 oz vodka
Pour in 1 oz fresh lemon juice
Pour in 1 oz simple syrup
Add 1/2 oz triple sec or orange liqueur
Shake well until cold
Strain into the chilled martini glass
Garnish with a lemon twist or sugar rim if desired
