Wash the orange thoroughly
Dry the orange completely
Use a microplane, fine grater, or zester
Grate only the outer orange skin
Avoid the white pith underneath
Rotate the orange as you zest
Stop when the colored outer layer is removed
Use immediately or store in an airtight container
