Gather flour, salt, cold butter or shortening, and ice water
Mix flour and salt in a bowl
Cut in the cold butter or shortening until the mixture looks like coarse crumbs
Add ice water a little at a time
Mix until the dough just comes together
Form the dough into a disk
Wrap and chill the dough
Roll out the chilled dough on a floured surface
Place the dough into the pie dish
Trim the edges
Crimp or shape the edges as desired
Chill again before filling or baking
