How To Make Starter For Sourdough Bread?

Mix 50 g whole wheat flour with 50 g water in a clean jar

Stir until no dry flour remains

Cover loosely with a lid or cloth

Leave at room temperature for 24 hours

Discard half of the mixture

Add 50 g flour and 50 g water

Stir well and cover loosely again

Repeat feeding every 24 hours

Keep discarding half before each feeding

Continue until the starter becomes bubbly and doubles in size after feeding

Use when it smells pleasantly sour and is active

Feed more often if the room is warm

Use equal parts flour and water by weight for each feeding

Store in the refrigerator once established if not using daily
