Empty the refrigerator and freezer completely
Unplug the refrigerator
Turn off the water supply if it has an ice maker or water dispenser
Disconnect the water line and drain any remaining water
Remove shelves, drawers, and loose parts
Defrost the freezer if needed and dry all interior surfaces
Tape the doors shut with moving tape or secure them with straps
Measure doorways, hallways, and the destination path
Clear obstacles from the moving route
Use a dolly or appliance hand truck rated for the refrigerator’s weight
Keep the refrigerator upright during the move whenever possible
Tilt it only as much as necessary to load and unload
Secure it with moving straps on the dolly
Protect floors and walls with blankets or cardboard
Move slowly with at least one helper
Load it into the truck upright and secure it so it cannot shift
Avoid laying it flat unless absolutely necessary
If it was laid down, let it stand upright before plugging it in
Wait several hours before reconnecting power if it was transported on its side
Reconnect the water line and turn the water back on
Plug it in and check that it cools properly
Reinstall shelves and drawers after it is in place
