How To Move A Refrigerator?

Empty the refrigerator and freezer completely

Unplug the refrigerator

Turn off the water supply if it has an ice maker or water dispenser

Disconnect the water line and drain any remaining water

Remove shelves, drawers, and loose parts

Defrost the freezer if needed and dry all interior surfaces

Tape the doors shut with moving tape or secure them with straps

Measure doorways, hallways, and the destination path

Clear obstacles from the moving route

Use a dolly or appliance hand truck rated for the refrigerator’s weight

Keep the refrigerator upright during the move whenever possible

Tilt it only as much as necessary to load and unload

Secure it with moving straps on the dolly

Protect floors and walls with blankets or cardboard

Move slowly with at least one helper

Load it into the truck upright and secure it so it cannot shift

Avoid laying it flat unless absolutely necessary

If it was laid down, let it stand upright before plugging it in

Wait several hours before reconnecting power if it was transported on its side

Reconnect the water line and turn the water back on

Plug it in and check that it cools properly

Reinstall shelves and drawers after it is in place
