Obtain a sapling
Choose a suitable location with enough space
Make sure the sapling is planted on grass, dirt, podzol, rooted dirt, or moss
Place the sapling on the ground
Wait for it to grow naturally
Use bone meal to speed up growth if desired
Clear nearby blocks if the tree needs more space to grow
Repeat with more saplings if you want more trees
