Choose a location with partial shade and well-drained soil
Test the soil pH and aim for acidic soil
Amend the soil with organic matter if needed
Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball and as deep as the root ball
Remove the azalea from its container gently
Loosen any circling roots before planting
Place the plant so the top of the root ball is level with or slightly above the soil surface
Fill the hole with soil and gently firm it around the roots
Water thoroughly after planting
Apply a layer of mulch around the plant, keeping it away from the stem
Space multiple azaleas according to their mature size
Water regularly until the plant is established
Avoid planting too deeply
Avoid heavy fertilizing at planting time
