Find a potato
Equip the potato in your hotbar
Till grass or dirt with a hoe to make farmland
Make sure the farmland is near water
Select the potato
Right-click or use the plant action on the farmland
Wait for the potato crop to grow through its stages
Harvest the mature potatoes with your hand or a tool
Replant some of the harvested potatoes to keep growing more
