Choose a sunny location with at least 6 to 8 hours of direct sunlight
Prepare well-draining soil enriched with compost
Harden off seedlings by gradually exposing them to outdoor conditions for 7 to 10 days
Water seedlings before planting
Dig a hole deep enough to bury most of the stem
Remove lower leaves from the seedling
Place the seedling in the hole and set it deeper than it was in the pot
Fill the hole with soil and gently firm it around the plant
Space plants 18 to 36 inches apart
Water thoroughly after planting
Add mulch around the base to retain moisture and suppress weeds
Install stakes, cages, or supports at planting time
Keep soil evenly moist
Feed with a balanced fertilizer after planting if needed
