Tune your guitar to standard tuning
Place a capo on the 3rd fret
Use fingerpicking throughout
Keep the high E string as the main melody note
Use the following chord shapes relative to the capo:
G major shape
A minor shape
G/B shape
C major shape
D major shape
Practice the opening pattern slowly
Pick the bass note first, then the melody note on the high E string
Keep the rhythm steady and even
Move through the song by alternating bass notes and melody notes
Repeat the main picking pattern for each section
Add hammer-ons and pull-offs where needed
Let notes ring into each other for a smooth sound
Play the melody on the high E string while holding the chord shapes
Use a metronome to build timing
Start slow and increase speed gradually
Listen to the original recording for phrasing and feel
