How To Play Darts?

Choose the dartboard setup and throwing distance (standard: 7 ft 9.25 in / 2.37 m from the oche to the board).

Mark the throwing line (oche) and ensure you stand behind it.

Hold the dart with a comfortable grip (common: pinch grip near the shaft).

Aim at the desired scoring area on the board.

Use a consistent throwing stance (feet shoulder-width apart, dominant foot slightly forward).

Keep your throwing arm steady and your wrist controlled.

Throw with a smooth forward motion, releasing the dart at the same point each time.

Follow through after release without lunging past the oche.

Start a game format (common options: 301, 501, Cricket).

For 301/501:

Begin at 301 or 501 points.

Subtract scores from each throw.

Finish by hitting a double (two times the number) to reach exactly zero.

If you exceed zero or cannot finish correctly, follow the rules for busting in that format.

For Cricket:

Target specific numbers (typically 20-19-18).

Score points by hitting each number at least the required times (often 3 for “closed”).

After closure, each additional hit scores that number’s points.

Win by closing all numbers and scoring more than the opponent.

Practice regularly with consistent aim, grip, and release.

Track results and adjust your aim based on where darts land.
