Othello is played on an 8×8 board with 64 squares.
Each player chooses a color: black or white.
The game starts with four discs in the center: two black and two white in a diagonal pattern.
Black moves first.
On your turn, place one disc on the board so that it brackets one or more of your opponent’s discs in a straight line.
Bracketing can happen horizontally, vertically, or diagonally.
After placing your disc, flip all opponent discs that are bracketed by your new disc and another disc of your color.
You must make a move that flips at least one opponent disc if possible.
If you cannot make a legal move, you pass your turn.
Players alternate turns.
The game ends when neither player can make a legal move or the board is full.
The player with the most discs of their color on the board at the end wins.
If both players have the same number of discs, the game is a draw.
