Sort through the chickpeas and remove any debris, stones, or damaged beans
Rinse the chickpeas thoroughly under cold water
Soak the chickpeas in plenty of water for 8 to 12 hours or overnight
Drain and rinse the soaked chickpeas before cooking
Place the chickpeas in a pot and cover with fresh water
Bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer
Skim off any foam that forms on the surface
Cook until the chickpeas are tender
Drain the cooked chickpeas if needed
Use immediately or store for later use
