Peel the cassava, yam, plantain, or cocoyam

Wash and cut into pieces

Boil in water until soft

Drain the water

Pound, mash, or blend the cooked pieces until smooth

Return to low heat if needed

Stir continuously until thick and stretchy

Add small amounts of water if needed while stirring

Cook until it reaches a smooth, elastic consistency

Shape into balls or serve immediately
