Peel and cut potatoes into even chunks
Place potatoes in a pot and cover with cold salted water

Peel and mince garlic
Melt butter in a small pan
Cook garlic in butter over low heat until fragrant
Drain the potatoes well
Return potatoes to the pot
Mash the potatoes until smooth or desired texture
Add the garlic butter to the potatoes
Add milk or cream gradually while mixing
Season with salt and black pepper
Mix until creamy and well combined
Serve warm
