Rinse the shrimp under cold water
Pat the shrimp dry with paper towels
Remove the shell if desired
Devein the shrimp by making a shallow cut along the back and removing the vein
Remove the tail if desired
Rinse again if needed
Season or marinate as desired
Cook by boiling, steaming, sautéing, grilling, or baking until pink and opaque
Avoid overcooking
