Breastfeed early and frequently
Feed the baby 8 to 12 times per day in the first days

Watch closely for yellowing of the skin or eyes
Seek medical advice if the baby is sleepy, feeding poorly, or hard to wake
Treat dehydration promptly
Follow the doctor’s guidance if the baby has blood type incompatibility or other risk factors
Avoid delaying medical care if jaundice appears early or worsens quickly
