How To Properly Sign A Check?

Use blue or black ink

Sign your name exactly as it appears on the check

Sign on the signature line on the back of the check

Endorse the check only when you are ready to deposit or cash it

For a restrictive endorsement, write “For deposit only” above your signature

Keep your signature within the endorsement area

Do not sign the front of the check unless required

Do not leave the check unsigned if the bank requires endorsement

Match any additional endorsement requirements from your bank or payee

Use the same signature consistently
