Start the engine
Keep the vehicle moving slowly or stop, depending on the Jeep model and transfer case
Shift the transmission into Neutral if required
Move the transfer case lever or selector to 4H or 4L
For 4L, bring the vehicle to a complete stop, shift the transmission to Neutral, then select 4L
For electronic shift systems, press the 4WD button or turn the selector to the desired mode
Wait for the 4WD indicator light to confirm engagement
Shift the transmission back into Drive or the appropriate gear
Drive normally within the limits of the selected 4WD mode
