How To Put Out A Grease Fire?

Turn off the heat source if it’s safe to do so.

Evacuate everyone immediately if flames are spreading or you’re not able to control the fire quickly.

If you have a fire blanket, cover the flames and leave it in place until the fire is out and has cooled.

Use a Class K or Class B fire extinguisher on the flames if you can do so safely and you have a clear exit behind you.

If the fire is small and you can safely smother it, cover with a lid or baking sheet to cut off oxygen.

Never use water on a grease fire.

Do not move the pan or fryer.

Do not use flour or baking powder to put it out.

Do not try to carry the burning item outside.

If the fire involves a hood, deep fryer, or fryer cabinet, call emergency services and shut off power/gas if you can do it safely.
