How to Qualify for SSDI?

Have a medical condition that meets Social Security’s definition of disability

Be unable to engage in substantial gainful activity because of the condition

Expect the condition to last at least 12 months or result in death

Have worked long enough and recently enough in jobs covered by Social Security

Earn enough work credits based on your age and work history

Be under full retirement age

Provide medical records, test results, and treatment history

Show that the condition limits your ability to work

Apply through Social Security and complete all required forms

Cooperate with any requests for additional medical evidence or exams
