How To Read Meter Tape?

Start at the zero mark on the tape

Identify the unit of measurement shown on the tape

Read the largest numbered mark first

Count the smaller marks between the numbered marks

Note whether the tape is marked in inches, centimeters, or both

For inches, read the whole inch number and then the fractional marks

For centimeters, read the whole centimeter number and then the millimeter marks

Keep the tape straight for an accurate reading

Make sure the tape is not twisted or slack

Read the mark where the object ends

Record the measurement clearly in the correct unit
