Look for the abbreviations OD, OS, and OU
OD means right eye
OS means left eye
OU means both eyes
Find SPH or Sphere for nearsightedness or farsightedness
A minus sign means nearsightedness
A plus sign means farsightedness
Find CYL or Cylinder for astigmatism
A larger CYL number means more astigmatism
Find AXIS for the direction of astigmatism
AXIS is a number from 1 to 180
Find ADD for reading or bifocal power
ADD is usually used for near vision correction
Find PRISM if included for eye alignment
Find PD for pupillary distance
PD is the distance between your pupils
Check whether each eye has separate values
Compare the numbers for right and left eye
Ask your eye doctor if any part is unclear
